The Vision Series: A Granite Bay Design Microsite

“An artist is not paid for his labor but for his vision.”
JAMES WHISTLER
The human eye is an extraordinarily complex sensory organ that functions much like a high-precision camera, converting ambient light into the vivid visual scenes processed by the brain. Light first enters through the transparent cornea, which performs the initial focusing before passing through the pupil—an aperture controlled by the colorful iris to regulate light exposure. The flexible lens behind the pupil then fine-tunes the focal point, projecting a sharp image onto the retina lining the back of the eye. Embedded within the retina are millions of photoreceptor cells known as rods (which detect light and motion in dim environments) and cones (which process fine details and vibrant color). These photoreceptors transform light energy into electrical impulses, transmitting them along the optic nerve directly to the visual cortex of the brain, where they are instantly interpreted as seamless, real-time vision.
Welcome to the Vision Series here on Granite Bay Design. I have an old book of engravings that I’ve always really liked. I’ve scanned a few of those, added color to them and researched quotations that I thought suited the images well. Please use the thumbnails below to navigate through the pages.
