Above: A group of domes, left to right: 1. A spherical dome with a circular arch composition at the sides. 2. A dome composed of hemispherical masses supported upon a drum whose upper plan is a duodecagon and whose lower is an octagon. 3. A group of domes with compound curves. 4. Cupola:
A small structure projecting above a roof that provides ventilation and can serve as a “look-out.”
Fluting:
Shallow grooves running along a surface.
Hemispherical:
Circular base with a semicircular section; half of a (completely round) sphere.
