ANCIENT CELTIC POETRY*
O áite doimhne bhéic mé
chugad, a Rí-Fhlaith neimhe,
éist mo ghuth, a Rí na rann,
anois ó táim a n-achrann.
Bíod Do chluasa go h-aireach
ag éisteacht le m’aghallmha;
tuirse ná déan lem’ ghuidhe,
a Thriath na sé sochaidhe.
ENGLISH TRANSLATION
From the deep place, I shout
to you, Royal King of heaven;
listen to my voice, oh King of verse,
now from [this] tangle.
If it were, Lord, [that you] were heedful [of sins],
my speech with you [would turn] to silence;
[for] sorrow [I could] not make my prayer with you,
Ruler of the multitude.
